Compositions for Flute or Violin and Piano by Tyzen Hsiao 1938 - 2015

Tyzen Hsiao's art songs have become standard repertory in Taiwan and form the basis of many of his instrumental compositions including those that appear in this recording. His compositional style combines Western influences with traditional Taiwanese music.

Szu-Ling Wu works as a collaborative artist/pianist at Carleton College, St. Olaf College and Gustavus Adolphus College. Prior to her position in Northfield, she played for the education program of Minnesota Opera. In addition to degrees from Cleveland Institute of Music and National Taipei University of Education, She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Collaborative Piano from the University of Minnesota. Szu-Ling Wu was born in Taipei, Taiwan and began playing the piano at the age of four, and viola at the age of nine. As an active musician, she has performed throughout the North America and Asia. Her festival appearances include Tunghai Music Festival in Taiwan, Aspen Music Festival and School, Kent/Blossom Music Festival, Bravo Music Festival, Vancouver International Song Institute and North America Viola Institute.
