seven rhythmic studies for two flute by tim lane

These seven compositions expand the aesthetic range that is typically expected from compositions written for the flute. Dialogue, rhythm, and the passage of “time” comprise the central expressive elements in these works. Compositional techniques include the use of symmetrical scales, canons, inversions, retrograde passage work, retrograde inversions, variations, and the use of imitation. These duets are sure to challenge and reward mid- to advanced-level players as well as audiences.

Listen to one through five of the Seven Rhythmic Studies as played by Jill Heinke-Moen and Tim Lane. Recroded by Steve Kaul at Wildsound Studio, Minneapolis, MN.
